Nathan Stein

Biography

Nathan is the CTO of Matter Intelligence. He is a remote-sensing scientist with over a decade of experience operating and conducting research with instruments on and around multiple planetary bodies. He was an integral member of the Science and Operations Teams for NASA's Mars Curiosity and Perseverance Rovers, as well as the Dawn mission to Ceres. Nathan’s research has focused on studying planetary surface processes with remote sensing. His contributions have significantly advanced our understanding of these distant worlds.

Beyond planetary exploration, Nathan has led machine learning teams in support of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's (NGA) Project Maven, developing advanced algorithms to analyze vast amounts of geospatial data. He also developed hyperspectral drone-based imaging systems at Caltech and built autonomous perception systems for counter-drone weapons.

Nathan has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and received a PhD in Planetary Science from Caltech after completing undergraduate degrees in Physics and Geophysics at Washington University in St. Louis.
